About the Arkansas Orchid Society
The Arkansas Orchid Society (ARoS) is a group of local orchid enthusiasts ranging from the novice hobbyist to the veteran horticulturist. Members share an interest in learning about the cultivation and propagation of Orchids. Including the general care, disease identification treatment and environment for the different varieties and species of Orchids.

ORCHIDS: Myths vs Facts
MYTH:
FACT:
“Orchids are hard to grow”
Orchids are actually very easy to grow and over-attention is usually the culprit for an orchid’s untimely demise.
MYTH:
“Orchids are toxic and pose a danger to me or my pets”
FACT:
Orchids are non-toxic and are actually edible. Vanilla beans are the seed pods of the orchid vanilla plantfolia.
MYTH:
Some orchids attach to a “host” tree but the orchid only uses them as habitat. They don’t draw anything from the tree except support and are NOT PARASITIC!.
FACT:
“Orchids are parasites”
During Show and Tell at our meetings, members bring in orchids that are in bloom or that they wish to ask a question about concerning care. Additionally, donated plants are raffled to attending members. In the gallery, we share some of the many orchids that have been displayed or raffled.
Membership in the Arkansas Orchid Society is currently $12.50 for a single membership per year. $15.00 for a family membership per year, due in January.
Annual dues are collected during meetings by the Society Treasurer, or please contact us for additional options.
